Nourish to thrive, you'll be barking mad not to!
I have been in the food industry my entire life. Ever since I was little, I always had a nose for this kind of thing. You might say I was born to be a restaurant and food critic and connoisseur. But never before have I encountered a culinary experience so transformative. Which is why I'd like to share what I consider to be some of the standout features of The Saltiest Dog food and menu options.
Food is my passion, and I could go into much detail, but for this review, I'll keep it to just the food experience itself, including one of my most favourite meals.
The Saltiest Dog's, Nourish To Thrive, pre made meals certainly do so much more than the interpretation of its title.
So fresh you can smell that meaty deliciousness. The gaminess of the venison, emu and kangaroo is an aroma that draws you closer. Then a secondary wave of sardines as you at last feast your eyes on the meal. Everything before you is laid out within a ceramic bowl, not divided, not organised. Inviting you to explore and discover the elements within.
The journey of deliciousness begins with the first bite. Your mouth fills with texture that's soaked in flavour. It's succulent and fresh, a mouthwatering melody. Your rear teeth bite down on something a little bouncy, but you feel something firm inside. You crunch again, it's a salmon belly, what a divine surprise. Complementing so perfectly with the richness and game like texture of the venison and kangaroo meat. The hint of mint, kale and ginger pop just a little as the taste fills your mouth.
The suspense builds for the next mouthful, you just can't hold back. It doesn't disappoint, this time with a chunky sardine piece and diced emu, so luscious. But wait, this time you can taste something else. A wholesome taste that reminds you of when you were young, bone broth. It fills and warms your mind, as it takes you back to your puppy hood, when the mealtimes were plentiful. The bone broth is enhanced by a slightly nutty and earthy taste, brought on by the overnight soaked and blitzed seed mixture and beetroot.
More bites proceed, the juicy texture adds volume. It's so flavoursome. There's a hint of apple and mango now, not overwhelming, but reminding you of summer and fruit stalls.
The experience continues as the final morsels of food in the bowl are all that's left. You carefully lick each section three times over. The taste not fading whilst some juices remain.
As you slow and take some breaths, touching up your muzzle on some grass and reflecting on the experience, your nose twitches, what's that aroma. The server presents and a duck head for the dessert.
Gently and politely, you take it from the server, your tongue and mouth bearly able to contain theselves. This new experience deserves a location change.
The duck head feels succulent. The satisfaction of the first crunch is moreish. The skull cracks under a bit of pressure, the silky, velvet like texture inside invites another bite. The satisfying sound of the bill breaking apart. It adds texture when mixed with the toothsome creamy texture of the head and organs is simply fetching.
The freshness reins in and maintains all the flavour, and continues until the end. There's the aftertaste of the duck, but your teeth and gums feel remarkably fresh and renewed. Another session of muzzle to the grass concludes your dinner with the saltiest dog.
Wait time to order: about 10mins. I had to remind the server with a few head tilts and long periods of stares from a distance.
Wait time on food: about 5mins.
Ambiance: native garden in Alice Springs. Beautiful backdrop of the West MacDonnell Ranges. Would probably eat inside during summer due to sky raisins
Overall rating of the experience: 5/5 high paws.
Quality of the food outweighs any wait times, and the complimentary ear scratches were a nice touch too
My dogs love this mix and devour every morsel. I love that there are things they don't always get that they can sink their teeth into
Love this mix! I buy a couple of these everytime I order. Useful for when I running a bit low on my own k9 mix and I don't have the scheduled time to set aside to make another bulk batch before I run out. Emu is something I can't source, say it's nice to be able to buy something that adds that variety in among their food.
Now we have started giving her raw meals from The Saltiest Dog she keeps nagging us for dinner now. She used to turn her nose up at kibble unless she was desperately hungry.
So nutritious another fave
