The offering to a God... I mean Dog
This meal I'm reviewing, changes you. Let me explain
Yesterday evening I was invited to the prestigious establishment of the Garden in the Gap, or locally known as The GG. renowned for their satisfying and immersive culinary experiences. Tonight's theme was Weird Stuff Saturday, and it was a surprise meal.
I caught my nose twitching, an aroma of a Seabreeze. I glanced towards the welcoming waft of saltiness, and saw the server approaching me.
I couldn't help but tilt my head. The quizzical thought looping in my mind, "what is that, it smells amazing, it looks amazing. What is that,..." I sat up as straight as I could, keen to understand what this stimulating smell could be.
The dish was a salmon frame, head included. And I was absolutely astonished at it's length, at 1m long, from head to tail, this was epic. Now, I'm tall, like I swear I'm part giraffe. Holding this in my mouth and in keeping it off the ground, even I had to stretch my noodle neck.
It felt silky and smooth, fresh and juicy, it was mouthwatering to say the least. I placed it down on k9 premium artificial grass mat, perfectly placed under a native Malley tree. I repositioned the frame a few times, trying to decide on how to tackle this tantalising treat.
Mentor Kyōshi Kai once told me, always save the best for last, so I decided to start with the middle and work my way to the tail, and save the head for last.
I laid down for this monumental effort and took my first bite. Sinking teeth into the cool, soft flesh, with the combination of bones, this was sensational.
Bite after bite, I worked through the frame to the tail. This was much more crunchy than I expected. The feeling stimulated my mouth, as teeth and gums worked. Soon enough the tail was finished. I picked through the k9 grass for any tail bits before moving onto the head, the final piece in tonight's mammoth meal.
The head looked succulent, the smell, oh so enticing. I tucked in behind the gills for some grip to get better positioning. My eyes wide with anticipation, I bit into the juicy thick exterior into the crispy cartilage.
My mind abandoned decorum, parts spilled from my mouth, my muzzle covered, it was even in my ear fur. The blend of organs, flesh and bone with the shear size of this undertaking, resonated with my primal side, and I embraced it. The taste, texture, my tongue truely tantalised until the last bite.
The last bits of the salmon, I cleaned off the k9 grass. My teeth and gums energised and renewed. With a muzzle wipe down session on the grass my dinner had concluded
The server topped everything off with a "good boy" and a complimentary scratch behind the ear.
Wait time to order: none really, I was treated like a VIP
Ambience: outside, native garden at dusk, sunset colours on the MacDonnell Ranges, beautiful. Would eat inside during summer though, due to sky raisins
Rating 5/5 paws: The dish was perfectly delectable, highly recommend, although bring a hairband if you've got long ear fur.
The salmon frame is one of the favourite treats for my dogs - an Australian Shepherd (3 years old) and a Golden Retriever puppy. It lasts (frozen) easily 20 - 30 minutes and it's healthy too!
I've been buying a lot of my raw ingredients from NSW, but noticed TSD had whole salmon frames with heads attached so decided to give them a try as I'd been buying them separately. Super happy! Great communication about my order, the cold packing was brilliant and even with postage it was better value than the other supplier. My kelpie noticed no difference and was happily munching through half a frame an hour after they arrived.
Lovely and fresh salmon frames and massive size, such a bargain.A word of caution though, all dogs eat differently but I couldn't give the frames to my 2 Goldens as they still had most of their small fishbones attached. They are soft of course yet our dogs are gulpers which poses high risks.
But a good quality food ,super fresh.
Fantastic for enrichment. Kept my pups entertained for about an hour
